A gaggle of well-dressed women in pink gathered at the Windsor RSL last Thursday, 30 October, to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation at the Pink Ribbon Brunch, hosted by Deputy Mayor Sarah McMahon.
The room was filled with fresh flowers and pink décor, including a donut display so beautiful you almost didn’t want to eat it. The air felt warm and welcoming, like walking into a hug wrapped in pink ribbons.
For those of us who didn’t own anything pink, there was a thoughtful surprise waiting at each seat. A little care package with heart-shaped sunglasses, pink scrunchies, and silky eye patches. Those small touches immediately made everyone feel part of something special.
At my table, I chatted with Ali Hilliard from the Hawkesbury Veteran and Family Hub, who couldn’t hide her admiration for the effort that had gone into the event.
“We are here to raise vital funds and have the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people in the community. It’s absolutely amazing. They’ve done such a beautiful job.”
I spoke with Jacky Turamo from The Jeremiah Project, who reflected on how deeply the cause resonated with the team and the community.
“A lot of people on our team have been affected by breast cancer, and I think it’s important to get together, have a chat, and share a meal. We love what Yasmin at Windsor RSL represents. Community and connection.”
The brunch spread was a highlight. The table overflowed with delicious delights of delicate pastries, savoury bites, and sweet treats. A high tea fit for a queen. Every plate, every flower, and every pink detail felt intentional and full of care.
There were prizes to be won through raffle tickets and a surprise ticket under a lucky winner’s seat for two tickets to see the Olivia Newton-John show, along with a bottle of Xanadu wine from Margaret River. Yasmine Chalmers, Community Engagement Manager, and Melinda McIlwaine, Marketing Manager, had thought of everything, which put consistent smiles on attendees’ faces.
Deputy Mayor Sarah McMahon shared her reflection with us of appreciation for the event.
“A huge thank you to Windsor RSL for hosting today’s Pink Ribbon Breakfast, with all funds raised going to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Everyone has been touched by someone in their family or a loved one by cancer. So, I think to come together, raise funds, and connect with the community is really vital, and it’s been a special day.”
Tickets to the brunch were just $10, with every dollar proudly supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It wasn’t just about fundraising. It was about community, women supporting women, sharing stories, and building hope together.
As the morning came to a close, I left with a full heart, a full tummy, and a few more friends than I had before. Grateful to share a meal, a laugh, dress up, and come together for a good cause.
If you’d like to contribute, donations can still be made via Windsor RSL’s community page, with all proceeds going directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Together, we can make a difference, one cup of tea at a time.
