Following an overwhelming response to its January launch, BigCi is set to host the next instalment of its new immersive arts series, Creative Encounters, inviting the Hawkesbury community to once again slow down and reconnect with the natural world.
Creative Encounters #2 will take place on Sunday 15 March, from 10.30am to 4.00pm, at the BigCi property, 82 Hanlons Rd North, Bilpin.
The inaugural event drew a full house, with participants describing the day as generous, thought-provoking and quietly transformative. Building on that momentum, the second full-day program promises another deeply engaging experience shaped by artists whose practices are grounded in close attention to place.
Set against the remarkable landscape of Bilpin in the Blue Mountains, the program invites participants to step outside familiar ways of seeing and engage more deeply with nature, materials and ideas.
Across the day, guests will take part in three immersive workshops led by internationally recognised artists.
In Survival Strategies We Can Learn From, Munich-based artist Penelope Richardson encourages participants to borrow survival tips from plants, animals and ecosystems – and turn them into art. Expect to get a little muddy, draw a little blindly and explore nature’s playbook in unexpected ways.
Berlin sound artist Jana Irmert, winner of the BigCi Environmental Award 2025, will lead Deep Listening – a guided listening session and soundwalk that shifts attention away from the visual. Participants will experience place through sound, movement and presence, discovering how differently the landscape reveals itself when we truly listen.
In Making by Melding, Vancouver artist Pippa Lattey will guide a tactile sculpture-making workshop that combines natural and human-made materials, exploring what new meanings emerge when disparate elements are brought together.
Throughout the day, BigCi Environmental Director and conservationist Yuri Bolotin will lead participants into the surrounding wilderness, sharing his knowledge of the local environment and deep passion for conservation.
No artistic experience is required only curiosity and a willingness to slow down.
If the January launch was any indication, Creative Encounters #2 will offer Hawkesbury residents another rare opportunity to pause, connect and see their environment anew. says Daniel from the Big C
