Drone Safety Rules Every Hawkesbury Flyer Should Know

Table of Contents

With drones becoming increasingly popular in the Hawkesbury, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is urging local flyers to learn the essential drone safety rules before taking to the skies.

CASA Chief Executive Officer Pip Spence stresses the importance of knowing the rules to keep everyone safe. “Taking a few minutes to understand drone safety helps ensure safe flights and protects the community,” Pip says.

Hawkesbury residents can visit knowyourdrone.gov.au to watch a brief video and test their knowledge with the drone safety quiz. Even experienced flyers often miss key rules, so a quick refresher is always helpful.

CASA also recommends downloading a free CASA-verified drone safety app. This handy tool shows in real time where you can and can’t fly, including alerts about temporary no-fly zones around major events, emergencies, and airports.

Some areas are always off-limits, such as near bushfires or emergency scenes, and close to airports.

When buying a drone, look for CASA-recognised drone safety advocate retailers who provide clear safety information. Nicholas from Ted’s Cameras, a local advocate, explains, “We display the rules near our drones so customers understand what flying involves before they buy.”

For safe and responsible drone flying in the Hawkesbury, learn the rules, take the quiz, and find trusted retailers at knowyourdrone.gov.au.
