Pet owners across the Hawkesbury are being encouraged to take advantage of a special microchipping and vaccination day being held later this month at the Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter.
The event is being organised by Hawkesbury Companion Animal Shelter in partnership with the Animal Welfare League NSW Hawkesbury Branch, with the aim of helping local pets stay safe, healthy and easily identifiable.
The community day will take place on Saturday, 21 March from 9am to 3pm at the shelter, located at 10 Mulgrave Road, Mulgrave.
Free Microchipping Available
Free microchipping will be available for pets on the day, with no appointment required.
Microchipping provides permanent identification for animals and greatly increases the chances of lost pets being reunited with their owners.
To ensure as many residents as possible can access the service, a limit of three pets per household applies and litters will not be accepted.
Subsidised Vaccinations
Subsidised vaccinations will also be available on the day, however bookings are required.
The vaccination service is available only to concession card holders, helping support households that may otherwise find veterinary care difficult to afford.
Pet owners wishing to book a vaccination appointment can contact the shelter directly.
Supporting Responsible Pet Ownership
Local animal welfare volunteers say the event aims to promote responsible pet ownership while helping ensure animals in the community are properly identified and protected against preventable diseases.
Microchipping is required under NSW law for most cats and dogs and plays a critical role in helping shelters return lost animals to their families.
Vaccinations are also an important part of keeping pets healthy and preventing the spread of common animal diseases.
