Local seniors are invited to attend a free community forum later this month, marking the official launch of the National Seniors Australia (NSA) Hawkesbury Branch.
The event will be held on Tuesday, 24 February at Hawkesbury Central Library, bringing together older residents from across the Hawkesbury for a morning of practical information, advocacy updates and social connection.
National Seniors Australia Community Engagement Manager Karen Furnivall said the forum is designed to help seniors stay informed while enjoying a welcoming and social environment.
“Local seniors will gain practical tools to help them save money, stay up to date on key issues affecting older Australians and learn how to protect themselves online,” Ms Furnivall said. “Our forums are always a highlight on the community calendar.”
The event will also officially launch the new Hawkesbury branch the first National Seniors branch to open in the scenic region along the Hawkesbury River providing opportunities for local seniors to get involved or even start their own social groups within the wider Sydney region.
National Seniors Australia is a peak consumer organisation representing older Australians. It advocates on issues affecting seniors’ financial security, health, and quality of life, including the Age Pension, retirement income, aged and home care, cost of living pressures, and consumer protection. The organisation also provides information, resources and member benefits to help seniors make informed decisions and stay connected within their communities.
National Seniors Australia CEO Chris Grice will speak at the forum, outlining how the organisation works with government, industry and the media to influence policy and raise awareness of issues impacting older Australians. He will also discuss how local seniors can take part in advocacy efforts.
Local senior and newly appointed Hawkesbury Branch Coordinator Elizabeth Frias said the branch will focus on keeping seniors informed, connected and engaged throughout the year.
“Our aim is to provide local seniors with access to expert information on issues that matter to their wellbeing,” Ms Frias said. “As a social branch, we’re also about staying connected, meeting new people, going on outings and learning new things together.”
Attendees will benefit from:
