At just 25 years old, Hawkesbury’s own Vince Phillips is making waves on this season of Australian Idol, captivating audiences nationwide with his big heart, country charm, and undeniable talent.
The youngest of 10 siblings, Vince grew up in a lively, musical household where singing was second nature. Surrounded by 30 nieces and nephews, music has always been woven into the fabric of his life. Inspired early by his older brother’s introduction to country legends like Rascal Flatts and Alan Jackson, Vince developed a lifelong passion for the genre.
Though Vince didn’t grow up in the Hawkesbury he moved here from Victoria just two years ago. The Wilberforce area has quickly become home. “I remember the very first time I moved here... I drove through Wilberforce and thought, ‘Oh wow. This is my life now,’” he said. “I love it. It’s just nice and peaceful, so easy to think.”
Known for his easy-going personality and a gift of the gab, Vince carries a harmonica in his pocket, adding layers to his down-to-earth persona. His simple yet powerful motto “you’ve got to have a crack to get a go” perfectly sums up his approach to both life and music. “You can’t just sit down and do nothing,” he said. “You’ve got to give everything a crack and give it 100%.”
Since moving to Wilberforce, Vince has become involved in the local music scene, performing at events around Richmond and Penrith. “I had great mates who had my back every step of the way when I auditioned for Australian Idol,” he said. “They were over the moon about it and really believed in me.”
Vince's advice to young people from small towns chasing big dreams was "Don’t hold back. Ask for opportunities because they’re not going to come to you. If you want it hard enough, you’ll get it.”
Vince is ready to back himself and see where the Australian Idol journey takes him. His blend of charisma, genuine warmth, and musical skill is already winning hearts, and the Hawkesbury community is rallying behind their local star.
Australian Idol premieres on Monday, 2 February on Channel Seven and 7plus. Don’t miss a moment of Vince’s journey on the national stage.
With every performance, Vince showcases not only his talent but the spirit of a young man determined to turn his dreams into reality proving that sometimes, all it takes is a bit of courage and a lot of heart.
