This Saturday, tomorrow, MacKillop Family Services is sharing in the colour, connection, and community spirit of the annual Parramatta Pride Picnic — a vibrant celebration of inclusion.  MacKillop invites LGBTIQA+ individuals, families, and allies from across Greater Western Sydney and the Hawkesbury to come together in support of children in care.

MacKillop Family Services, one of Australia’s most respected child and family support organisations, will be at the event to encourage more people within the LGBTIQA+ community to consider becoming foster carers. With hundreds of children across the region in need of safe and loving homes, MacKillop’s message is simple: “Every child deserves a place to belong.”

“Children thrive when they are surrounded by people who can provide stability, understanding, and acceptance,” says Jasmine Perry, MacKillop’s National Leader of Foster Care Development.  “We celebrate diversity. Love makes a family regardless of gender or sexuality.”MacKillop foster carer Brent says that a chat with the MacKillop team will help tackle any misconception around who can be a foster carer.  “Being from the LGBTIQA+ community shouldn’t stop you from becoming a foster carer,” he says. “My experience has been positive, so don’t let fear hold you back; just go for it.”

The free community event will feature entertainment, food, activities and meaningful connections for the LGBTIQA+ community, their families, friends and community allies. MacKillop will have a stall there, a relaxed and welcoming space where people can learn about fostering while enjoying a day of celebration and inclusion.

For the Hawkesbury LGBTIQA+ community, this offers a chance to connect with a supportive organisation and network of carers committed to keeping children safe and nurturing their potential in loving homes.

MacKillop Family Services will also be providing information on how local families can get involved in foster care and learn more about their programs supporting vulnerable young people across New South Wales.

The Pride Picnic will be held this Saturday 11 October at Parramatta Park, with more details available here. MacKillop invites everyone to their stall to celebrate the message that inclusion, love, and community care make a lasting difference in a child’s life.
