When I first came across Chakra & Co on Instagram, it wasn’t just the clothes that stopped me scrolling. It was the effortless joy. In their signature weekly video, Kate twirls across the crossing near Richmond Park, beckons viewers to follow her into the shop, and tries on all the new arrivals for the week. Her daughter Annie directs from behind the camera, posting the reel each Friday to show what’s fresh for the weekend. Link to video
There’s something refreshingly real and unique about this type of marketing for a clothing store, and it’s put Chakra & Co on the map. They capture the easygoing vibe of their shop while staying truly authentic; just two Hawkesbury women having fun, creating a space that feels open and unpretentious. And that tone carries through when you walk into the store itself.
Kate and Annie run the business together. Kate works on the shop floor, managing everything from customer service to steaming garments, while Annie handles everything online, including the website, orders and social media. Between them they’ve built not just a following of more than 3,300 people online and counting, but a genuine community.
“It’s never been about selling,” Kate told me. “It’s about sharing what we love and showing women they can wear what makes them feel good.”
That idea came through clearly when I visited the boutique to buy a birthday gift for my sister. A woman came in saying she only owned “work clothes” and hadn’t bought something to go out in for years. Within minutes Kate had her trying on dresses she never would have picked herself. The woman left beaming. With the welcoming charm of Chakra & Co, this place isn’t about transactions, it’s about transformation.
The mother and daughter started small, running market stalls and online sales before moving into their Richmond space five years ago. They’ve since weathered COVID shutdowns, floods and the usual chaos of small business life. But through it all, their sense of humour and optimism have remained.
“We just keep showing up, having fun and being ourselves,” says Kate. “That’s what people respond to.”
In an era when fashion can often feel exclusive or impersonal, Chakra & Co stands out for being exactly the opposite. Their Instagram dances and weekly videos aren’t marketing stunts; they’re invitations. They show the Hawkesbury as vibrant, creative and worth celebrating, and it’s putting Richmond on the map.
Women now travel from all over, across the Hawkesbury and beyond, to shop in-store or browse online, drawn by that same authenticity and sense of joy that shines through every reel.
Maybe that’s why people stop them in the supermarket to say, “You’re the ladies from the crossing!” and why the store feels more like a meeting place than a boutique. It’s not about clothes; it’s about confidence, community and the kind of small-town spirit that reminds you why you love living here.
And at its heart, it’s inspiring to see a mother and daughter championing each other, building something together, believing in their community, and setting an example for the women of the Hawkesbury to be themselves and thrive.
