The Windsor Experience has announced an inspiring community project that will see a brand-new rotunda gifted to the people of Windsor, a timeless addition to the Mall that celebrates local heritage and craftsmanship.
Earlier this year, members of The Windsor Experience voted to invest their collective funds into creating something meaningful and enduring for the town. Now, that vision is taking shape, with the group set to fund the full cost of materials for a new rotunda, crafted entirely from local timbers using traditional joinery.
Adding to the project’s authenticity is the involvement of master carpenter Mr. Jex Pablo, a traditional timber framer sponsored by The King’s Foundation, who has generously offered to build the structure free of charge in his workshop. Pablo specialises in heritage construction methods and runs educational programs that keep these skills alive.
Once completed, the new rotunda, built to the same dimensions as the current one, will be delivered to Windsor ready for installation over a single weekend. The group has already written to the Mayor to formally offer the structure as a community gift, complete with all necessary engineering certifications.
Local heritage experts have worked closely with The Windsor Experience to ensure the design complements the town’s historic charm. The existing trellis and wisteria will remain as part of the final setting, preserving the much-loved atmosphere of the Mall.
“With the recent upgrades to Windsor Mall and the rotunda’s more prominent position, we felt it was time for a design that better reflects Windsor’s heritage character, something that stands as a symbol of pride and craftsmanship,” said AJ Dundas, Co-President of The Windsor Experience.
Supporters are invited to contribute further donations to enhance the project, with funds going toward roofing details or decorative elements.
Community members can explore the design, learn more about Jex’s work, or even sign up to join the workshop to help build the structure at kieselhaus.com.
“The Windsor Experience is proud to give back to the community in a way that will last for generations,” Dundas added. “Together, we’re leaving something beautiful and everlasting for Windsor.”
