Residents across the Hawkesbury Local Government Area are being urged to remain vigilant after the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a severe thunderstorm warning, with storms likely to produce heavy rainfall and dangerous flash flooding across large parts of the region.
The BOM has warned that severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, particularly north-west of Glenorie and Maroota through to St Albans and along the Putty Road. Other at-risk areas include Windsor, Richmond and Wilberforce through to the Kurrajong and Bilpin districts.
Damaging winds and intense rainfall may lead to rapid rises in creeks and waterways, fallen trees, power disruptions and hazardous road conditions. Low-lying areas and rural roads are expected to be especially vulnerable if storms intensify.
Emergency services have advised residents to secure loose outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during storm activity and move vehicles away from flood-prone areas where possible. Motorists are warned not to drive through floodwaters, with conditions capable of changing rapidly.
The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has reminded the community to stay away from fallen power lines and storm-damaged infrastructure and to monitor conditions closely throughout the warning period.
