Spooky, Scary, Kooky, Hilarious Dinner at RG's

When I asked, she laughed. “No,” she said, “I’ll give you a hint.” Moments later her boss, Ryan Hopkins, stepped out from behind the bar, and it clicked. She was dressed as him.

After the Gazette meeting on Halloween night, the team headed to RG Magees for dinner, the kind of place where everyone seems to know someone. As we approached the bar, I spotted a young woman I was sure was dressed as Pitbull — part of the viral trend of women donning bald caps and sunglasses to become “Mr. Worldwide.”

When I asked, she laughed. “No,” she said, “I’ll give you a hint.” Moments later her boss, Ryan Hopkins, stepped out from behind the bar, and it clicked. She was dressed as him.

Oreca Pentecost, a server with a flair for humor, had decided to dress up as her manager for Halloween.

“I wanted to be that dancing wolfman from TikTok,” she told me, laughing, “but Ryan said no. So I said, ‘Can I dress up as you?’ and he said, ‘Knock yourself out.’" - Oreca Pentecost

It was one of those perfectly local moments that says so much about a place. The kind of camaraderie that turns a workplace into a family. Watching Ryan’s good-natured smile as Oreca poured drinks dressed exactly like him. You couldn’t help but laugh and feel that RG's was exactly where you wanted to be on Halloween night.

Adding to the fun, a little girl in full Halloween spirit darted past the tables. Red wig, blue face paint, and a patchwork dress. She was Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, trick-or-treat bucket in hand. She gave us a playful scare, then proudly displayed her “Halloween haul” from her black cat bucket.

Between the laughter, the costumes, and the easy warmth of the room, it was exactly what I wanted with my meal. Great tastes, and good humour.
