At 92, still as passionate as ever, Mrs. B remains the driving force behind the Poppets Netball Club — the team she founded more than five decades ago and has nurtured ever since.
The club’s story began in 1969 when Mrs. B’s daughter, Janine, and her friends wanted to keep playing netball after finishing at South Windsor School. With her encouragement and coaching, a single team was formed. Armed with donated fabric for uniforms and Mrs. B’s guidance, the Poppets were born — a name inspired by her affectionate nickname for the girls, her “little poppets.” From those modest beginnings, the club has grown to over 10 teams, producing generations of players and a rich local legacy.
Despite the passing years, Mrs. B’s passion has never dimmed. Every weekend, she can be found courtside, cheering on the players and delivering her signature halftime pep talks that have spurred many teams to victory. Finals are a highlight, and her presence is considered an essential part of the club’s success.
Mrs. B is described by members as selfless, dedicated, and inspiring. She has given countless hours to coaching, mentoring, and building a community that extends far beyond the game. Her influence has shaped not only athletes but also friendships and families across the district.
