A new state-of-the-art basketball training facility, The Lab, has opened in Mulgrave, quickly gaining attention across the Hawkesbury region. Designed to support athletes of all ages, The Lab provides a space to develop skills and build connections. Its welcoming, community-focused atmosphere encourages every athlete to reach their full potential.
Founded by 21-year-old coach "Romey" Jerome, The Lab opened its doors just six months ago and has quickly become a hub for local basketballers.
“We make sure every session is challenging but fun. If training isn’t enjoyable, you don’t want to come back, so we always keep the energy high.” - Romey, Founder.

For Jerome, opening The Lab is the realisation of a lifelong dream. “It’s something I’ve wanted since I was about 15. I wanted to create a place where players can grow, improve, and feel part of something special,” he said.
What truly sets The Lab apart is its professional-grade hardwood sprung floor, the only one of its kind in the Penrith and Hawkesbury region. Designed to replicate real game conditions, this surface offers athletes a realistic, responsive playing experience that mirrors what they’d find in competitive stadiums. The sprung design adds both comfort and bounce, reducing impact while enhancing movement. It’s perfect for players enhancing their footwork, shooting, or agility.
“It’s a lot more realistic, especially for players who compete in local comps,” Jerome explained. “It makes training feel just like game day.”

Programs at The Lab cater to all ages and abilities, combining on-court skill work with basketball-specific strength and conditioning. The coaching team, Marcus, Noah, and Hunter, work closely alongside Jerome to ensure every athlete receives tailored guidance and encouragement.
During our visit, it was clear The Lab thrives on inclusion, camaraderie, and genuine passion. The close-knit dynamic between the coaches creates an atmosphere that’s both supportive and inspiring a place where players can thrive on and off the court.

With growing success stories and expansion plans already in motion, The Lab is shaping up to be the beating heart of basketball in the Hawkesbury turning passion for basketball into opportunity for the Hawkesbury community.
