Making things easier for the volunteers who step up to provide hot meals, groceries, and a friendly face for a chat has been a focus of the Volunteer Grants program, according to Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman.

Across the Hawkesbury there are 21 not-for-profit groups who have been supported under the latest round of the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants program.

“Food support services have been key recipients of this funding, with Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands receiving $5000, Hawkesbury Community Kitchen $2000, Hawkesbury Colo Meals on Wheels $2000, and $1000 each for The Jeremiah Project and The Living Room. These funds will make volunteering easier by upgrading essential equipment like computers and shelving units." says Ms Templeman MP

Other organisations to recieve grants include Bligh Park Community Services and Pink Finss both received $2000, while Merana, Richmond Community Services and Hawkesbury Community Outreach Services have each received $1500.

A number of local sporting clubs have also been beneficiaries, including Glossodia Cricket Club, Pitt Town Football Club, Wilberforce Cricket Club and Hawkesbury Baseball Club.

Animal Welfare League, Mountains for Wildlife, Hawkesbury Woodcraft and Colo Shire Family History Group have also received funding.

“As Christmas approaches, I’d also like to give a special shout out to all those who keep working over the festive season, in our shops, small businesses, the health system and emergency services. We appreciate you, and we thank you,” said Ms Templeman.
