Bligh Park FC’s Under 15 Division 1 Girls team have pulled off a remarkable achievement, sealing both the competition title and the Grand Final win in their first year at the top division. On Saturday, September 7 at Jamison Park, the side edged out Penrith Rovers 2–1 in a hard-fought match that had supporters on their feet until the final whistle.

The result crowned an extraordinary season for the squad, who had already been named Competition Winners for finishing top of the ladder. It also marked the third consecutive year they have won both the league and the Grand Final — a streak made all the more impressive by the fact that 2024 was their first year playing Division 1 football.

Coach Sally Roberts credited her team’s defensive strength and close-knit bond as keys to success.

“As a defender myself, my strategy has always been about building a strong defensive line — and it’s worked. This season, we’ve had the fewest goals scored against us, and most of the play has been in our attacking half. But it’s not just about tactics. Friendship is another part of our strategy. These girls are true friends, and that makes them play harder — not just for themselves, but for each other.”

That bond was echoed by team captain Taylor Roberts, who admitted she felt “nervous, but also really excited” before the big game.

“Winning a grand final is an amazing feeling, but what makes it truly special is doing it with such great friends,” - Taylor Roberts

Striker Eden Falkenmire described the win as proof of the squad’s unity and bravery.

“It shows that we’re a team who trusts each other, works hard together, and isn’t afraid to take risks,” - Eden Falkenmire

Goalkeeper Emily Dawson added that the victory showed

“all the hard work we’ve put in, and now other teams know we’re a side to be reckoned with.” - Emily Dawson

Right winger Amelia Kent summed up the mood with simple determination:

“Winning feels absolutely amazing, especially doing it for the third year in a row! Next goal? Keep winning!” - Amelia Kent.

The girls then went on to represent the Hawkesbury in the prestigious NSW Champion of Champions tournament, playing their opening match against Mount Annan Mustangs FC at Narellan Rangers SC on Sunday, September 22. It was a nail-biter, with Bligh Park enjoying more possession and more shots on goal. With the scores locked at 0–0 after full time and 20 minutes of golden goal extra time, the contest was decided by penalties, where the Mustangs prevailed 4–2.

Despite the heartbreak of the shootout, the Bligh Park girls finished the season with an incredible record: winning their competition, claiming the Grand Final, reaching the Grand Final of the Nepean Cup, and representing their club at Champion of Champions — all in their very first year in Division 1.

The proud roster of champions includes: Maddison Rawling, Taylor Roberts, Mela Sutton, Emily Dawson, Zahlia Baldacchino, Eden Falkenmire, Piper Straub, Hannah Salt, Amelia Kent, Charlize Sherry, Mariah Saliba, Indigo Kenny, and Natalia Sherry. The team is guided by coach Sally Roberts and managed by Rebecca Dawson.

For the Bligh Park FC community, this squad’s achievements are more than just victories — they are an inspiring example of resilience, friendship, and sporting excellence.
