Families Navigate a Changing World

Parenting Support on Offer in Richmond this May

Families across the Hawkesbury will have the opportunity to build skills, confidence and connection this month, with a series of parenting workshops being delivered by Richmond Community Services Inc.

The May program comes at a time when many parents say raising children today looks very different to previous generations, bringing new challenges that require new approaches.

Parenting in a New Era

From social media and digital technology to increased awareness of mental health and neurodiversity, today’s children are growing up in an environment vastly different to that experienced by their parents.

As a result, experts say parenting can no longer rely solely on past experience or advice passed down through generations.

Instead, families are increasingly needing to build new skills and expand their “parenting toolbox”.

The workshops aim to support that shift, offering practical, evidence-based strategies that reflect the realities of modern family life.

Practical Support for Everyday Challenges

Held at 20 West Market Street, Richmond, the sessions provide a supportive environment where parents and carers can learn new techniques, reflect on their parenting approaches that best suit them and connect with others facing similar challenges.

Each workshop focuses on real-world issues, from anxiety and behaviour to maintaining connection within busy family lives.

The May schedule includes a range of targeted sessions:

🤝 Respond, Don’t React

Wednesday, 27 May | 10:00am – 1:00pm

Expanding the Parenting Toolbox

Organisers say one of the key messages of the program is that learning new parenting strategies is essential for adapting to our changing world.

Today’s families are navigating more complex emotional needs, greater awareness of children’s mental health and different social pressures than previous generations.

By building new skills, parents can better support their children’s development while also reducing stress within the household.

Building Stronger Families

The workshops are designed to strengthen communication

  • improve emotional understanding
  • and foster more positive family dynamics

They also provide an opportunity for parents to connect, share experiences and realise they are not alone.
