Farewell to a Kurrajong Favourite

Ruth Santi Says Goodbye to Schembrae's Restaurant

An awarding winning team. Ruth celebrating Schembrae's success.

After five and a half years serving traditional European and Maltese cuisine to the Hawkesbury community, Ruth Santi has farewelled Schembrae's Restaurant in Kurrajong Village.

The award winning restaurant, which developed a loyal following among locals and visitors alike, was officially sold on 9 June 2026, marking the end of an era for one of the village's best-known dining destinations.

Since opening, Schembrae's Restaurant established a reputation for its authentic European flavours, warm hospitality and distinctive Maltese menu, becoming a regular choice for special occasions, family celebrations and casual dining.

The restaurant's success was reflected in the strong support it received from the local community and the recognition it earned during its years of operation.

Local resident Mary Koellener said she was saddened to hear of the sale.

"I am very saddened by the sale as this was an award-winning European restaurant with a traditional Maltese menu that we will not have available in our community again," Ms Koellener said.

"The community wishes Ruth and her family the very best for the future."

For many residents, Schembrae's was more than just a restaurant. It was a gathering place where friends and families came together over meals inspired by Ruth's European heritage and passion for hospitality.

Operating a successful hospitality business is no small achievement, particularly during a period that included the challenges faced by restaurants and small businesses across Australia in recent years. Through it all, Schembrae's continued to attract customers from across the Hawkesbury and beyond.

While the sale closes one chapter, many customers will fondly remember the restaurant's unique menu, welcoming atmosphere and the personal touch that Ruth brought to the business.

As Ruth and her family move on to new opportunities, the Hawkesbury community has expressed its appreciation for their contribution to village life and the local dining scene.
