Richmond’s historic Regent Theatre will become a salon of stories, mystery and illusion when renowned Australian magician Bruce Glen arrives as part of the inaugural Sydney Magic Festival.
Known as The Gentleman Magician, Glen will present Magic for Adults - But Not Necessarily Grown-ups! at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, October 10.
The production combines magic with stories about con men, conjurors and ghosts, drawing inspiration from the elegant theatrical salons popular in 19th-century Europe.
Organisers say the performance is much more than a conventional magic show, with Glen using storytelling and illusion to take audiences into some of the stranger chapters of Australian history.
The Regent Theatre’s own reputed ghost may also receive a mention during the evening—although whether it makes an appearance remains to be seen.
Glen has been performing his long-running Sydney show, The Gentleman Magician’s Magical Soirée, for more than a decade.
According to organisers, the production has attracted more than 350 five-star reviews and received a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award, placing it among the platform’s top 10 per cent of attractions worldwide.
Glen is also an Associate of The Inner Magic Circle, one of the highest levels of recognition awarded by the internationally renowned London-based magic society.
His performances have taken him to the Edinburgh and Adelaide fringe festivals, Fringe World Perth and the Edinburgh Magic Festival, where he has appeared before sold-out audiences.
The Richmond performance is intended primarily for adults and teenagers. Organisers say the show contains nothing inappropriate for children but is best suited to people aged 12 and older.
