Music lovers across the Hawkesbury will have a treat this March when the Macquarie Towns Symphony Orchestra (MTSO) presents its Autumn Concert 2026 an afternoon of timeless orchestral masterpieces performed right here in Richmond.

For more than 50 years, the MTSO has been the cultural heartbeat of the Hawkesbury, bringing the power and beauty of live symphonic music to local audiences. Founded in 1972, the orchestra mixes amateur and professional players of all ages, nurturing young talent while providing a welcoming space for community musicians to share their passion.

"Performing in the Hawkesbury means providing high-quality live orchestral music directly to the local community and enriching the region’s cultural life," said organiser Alison Egan, highlighting the orchestra’s long-standing connection to Richmond audiences.

On Sunday 29 March 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St Andrew’s Uniting Church, 25 West Market Street, Richmond, the orchestra will showcase works by four of classical music’s towering figures: Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn, and Johannes Brahms.

Audiences can expect a journey through the heart of the orchestral tradition — from Haydn’s elegance, through Beethoven’s bold intensity, to Mendelssohn’s lyrical grace and Brahms’ romantic warmth. Whether you’re a lifelong classical fan or discovering orchestral music for the first time, there’s something in the program for every ear.

Egan added, "Having live orchestral music locally makes classical music more accessible for residents, so families, students and older audience members can enjoy it without travelling into Sydney."

The concert is part of MTSO’s regular season, with four concerts each year designed to enrich the local cultural scene and bring people together through music. Tickets are available now, and with afternoon tea included, the event promises both beautiful music and a relaxed, welcoming community atmosphere.

As the Hawkesbury continues to grow, events like this highlight the region’s vibrant arts and cultural life reminding us that world-class music doesn’t have to be confined to big cities. It can be enjoyed right here, in the heart of our own community.

Music lovers who can travel to Penrith

The Penrith Conservatorium of Music launches a vibrant program of classes and events for students of all ages. Whether you are a beginner picking up an instrument for the first time or an experienced musician looking to refine your skills, there is something for everyone. Term 2 runs from 20 April to 3 July, giving local families and music enthusiasts plenty of opportunities to get involved.

Early Childhood Music sessions offer a playful introduction to the world of music for toddlers and their caregivers. These classes focus on rhythm, movement, and singing, helping young children develop coordination, listening skills, and a love for musical exploration. Parents and carers participate alongside their children, creating a nurturing environment where creativity and confidence can grow together. Many families find these classes to be a wonderful way to bond while introducing children to the fundamentals of music from an early age.

For older students, the LiveWire Band provides an exciting avenue to explore contemporary pop and rock music. Geared toward teenagers aged 12 to 16, the ensemble encourages participants to develop their skills in a supportive, high-energy setting. Members work on technique, performance skills, and teamwork, culminating in live performances that showcase their progress. It’s a perfect space for aspiring young musicians to collaborate, experiment with their sound, and experience the thrill of performing in front of an audience.

Community singing is also a highlight, with the Con Singers Collective welcoming both new and experienced vocalists. This community choir focuses on a wide range of repertoire, from classical pieces to modern arrangements, encouraging singers to grow their vocal skills while enjoying the camaraderie of ensemble work. The choir’s performances throughout the term allow participants to share their talent with the local community, creating memorable musical moments for both performers and audiences alike.

The Penrith Youth Orchestra continues to provide orchestral experience for students aged 6 to 25. This program offers an invaluable opportunity for young musicians to perform in a full orchestral setting, developing technical skills, musicality, and ensemble awareness. Participants gain experience performing a variety of repertoire, from classical symphonies to contemporary works, and are guided by professional conductors who nurture their growth as both individuals and musicians. The orchestra not only strengthens musical ability but also builds teamwork, discipline, and confidence.

Term 2 also promises exciting public events. The Autumn Recital is a highlight for the community, giving students the chance to present their hard work in a supportive, celebratory environment. Additionally, the Fiery Bach concert, presented in partnership with the Sydney Youth Orchestras, offers an electrifying evening of Baroque music performed with youthful energy and passion. Both events showcase the dedication and talent of students and provide audiences with inspiring live performances.

With enrolments now open, the Penrith Conservatorium of Music invites everyone from young beginners to seasoned performers to join in this season of creativity, growth, and connection. Whether you want to learn an instrument, join a choir, or simply enjoy attending live concerts, this term offers an array of opportunities to be part of Penrith’s thriving musical community.
