Hawkesbury motorists travelling between East Kurrajong and Colo Heights can expect improved driving conditions in the months ahead, with significant repair works set to begin on Putty Road from Monday 23 March.

Transport for NSW has announced a major maintenance program that will see approximately 47,500 square metres of road surface and 7,200 square metres of road shoulder repaired delivering a smoother and safer route along one of the region’s most important rural corridors.

The works will be carried out over up to 45 weekday shifts, continuing through to Friday 19 June 2026, weather permitting. Crews will be on site Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm, with no work scheduled on weekends or public holidays.

For local residents, businesses and visitors, Putty Road is more than just a transport link it’s a vital connection supporting tourism, freight, and access between communities across the Hawkesbury and beyond. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance safety and reliability, particularly on a road known for its winding sections and heavy vehicle use.

During construction, motorists should be prepared for temporary traffic changes, including lane closures and reduced speed limits of 40km/h through work zones. Drivers are being urged to allow extra travel time, follow signage, and comply with directions from traffic controllers to ensure the safety of both workers and road users.

Importantly, the works are being scheduled during daylight hours to balance efficiency with minimal disruption, allowing the road to remain open outside of active work periods.

Transport for NSW has thanked the community for its patience, noting the long-term benefits these improvements will bring to the region.

For Hawkesbury residents who rely on Putty Road daily whether for work, school runs or accessing essential services the upgrades represent a practical investment in safer, more reliable infrastructure.
