Motorists travelling through McGraths Hill are being advised to prepare for changed traffic conditions as safety improvement work begins at the intersection of Windsor Road and Pitt Town Road.
The project, being carried out by Transport for NSW, will involve widening the western side of Windsor Road to create wider northbound lanes and improve the right-turn movement from Pitt Town Road into Windsor Road.
Transport for NSW says the changes are aimed at reducing the risk of head-on and side-swipe crashes at the busy intersection, which serves as a key access point between the Hawkesbury and north-west Sydney.
Night Work Scheduled
Construction will take place over up to 60 night shifts between Monday 16 March and Thursday 16 July 2026, weather permitting.
Work will occur between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday, with no work scheduled on Friday or Saturday nights or on public holidays.
The night schedule has been chosen to minimise disruption for motorists during peak daytime traffic periods.
Temporary Traffic Changes
Drivers should expect temporary traffic changes while the work is underway.
These will include:
- lane closures around the intersection
- a reduced speed limit of 40km/h
- traffic control and signage directing vehicles through the work zone.
Motorists are being asked to drive to the conditions and follow the instructions of traffic controllers and temporary road signs.
Improving Safety
According to Transport for NSW, the intersection upgrade is designed to improve traffic flow and reduce the likelihood of crashes by providing additional space for vehicles travelling north on Windsor Road and improving turning movements from Pitt Town Road.
The intersection is a key junction for traffic moving between Pitt Town, Windsor, and the broader Hawkesbury region.
Transport for NSW thanked motorists and nearby residents for their patience during the work period.
