Hawkesbury motorists are being advised that the temporary closure of Old Pitt Town Road will be extended through to the end of June, as work on the long-awaited Pitt Town bypass project continues.
Transport for NSW has confirmed that Old Pitt Town Road between Cattai Road and Airstrip Road will remain under changed traffic conditions from Monday 23 March to Tuesday 30 June 2026, weather permitting.
The extended closure will see the road restricted to local residents only, with general traffic required to use alternative routes while construction progresses. Works will take place overnight, between 6pm and 7am, in an effort to minimise daytime disruption.
For those who live in and around Pitt Town, the extension is expected to be a mixed outcome bringing some short-term inconvenience, but continuing momentum on a project widely seen as critical to improving flood resilience and connectivity in the region.
During work hours, motorists in the area should expect traffic control, signage, and reduced speed limits of 40km/h, with drivers urged to follow directions and exercise caution.
The Pitt Town bypass has been a key piece of infrastructure for the Hawkesbury, designed to provide a more reliable access route during flood events and reduce pressure on existing local roads. While the extended closure may impact daily travel in the short term, it marks ongoing progress toward a more resilient road network.
Transport for NSW has thanked the community for its patience and cooperation during the works.
