The Future of the Hawkesbury Gazette: A Community-Owned Model

The Hawkesbury Gazette is transitioning into a Not-for-Profit Charitable Trust. This important step is designed to secure the future of our local paper by allowing us to accept tax-deductible donations to help cover essential operating costs.

Like many independent newspapers, advertising revenue alone is no longer enough to sustain regular publication. While we will work closely with local businesses and advertisers, the financial reality is that local newspapers across the country are struggling.

To keep the Gazette in print — telling local stories, holding decision-makers accountable, and celebrating our community — we’re embracing a model that has worked successfully elsewhere: combining paid and volunteer staff and support, community donations, and contributions from local businesses and philanthropists to make up the shortfall.

This is about local journalism owned by and for the community. Every dollar helps us remain independent, relevant, and committed to the Hawkesbury.
