Motorists travelling through Castlereagh later this month are being advised to plan ahead, with temporary traffic changes scheduled at the intersection of Castlereagh Road and Cranebrook Road (north) as part of investigations into potential safety improvements.
Transport for NSW has announced that investigation works will be carried out to support the planning and development of possible safety upgrades at the busy intersection.
The work will take place over up to three night shifts between Tuesday, June 16 and Tuesday, June 30, weather permitting.
Work hours will be from 8pm to 5am, Sunday to Thursday, with no work scheduled on Friday or Saturday nights.
The intersection is a key route for motorists travelling between Penrith, Cranebrook and communities further north, including many Hawkesbury residents who regularly commute through the area.
Transport for NSW said the investigations are designed to gather information needed to assess future safety improvements at the intersection.
While details of any proposed upgrades have not yet been released, the investigations suggest authorities are examining options to improve traffic safety and traffic flow at the location.
Temporary traffic management measures will be in place during the works to protect workers and road users.
These will include:
- Lane closures;
- Traffic control measures; and
- A reduced speed limit of 40km/h through the work zone.
Drivers are advised to allow additional travel time and follow all directions from traffic controllers and signage.
The works form part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety across the region, with intersections often identified as locations where targeted upgrades can reduce the risk of crashes and improve traffic efficiency.
Motorists travelling between the Hawkesbury and Penrith areas during the works period should remain alert for changed traffic conditions and exercise caution when approaching the intersection at night.
