Hawkesbury Race Club will host the Western Sydney Tattoo Show on Saturday, 14 November, bringing tattoo artists, live entertainment and family activities to Clarendon.
Tattooing’s history reaches far beyond the modern studio. In Australia, convict records preserve tattoos expressing love, remembrance and individuality, while sailors helped carry designs and techniques between ports. Once strongly associated with maritime life and particular subcultures, tattooing has developed into a widely recognised form of personal expression and artistic practice.
The show will also feature traditional Samoan hand-tapped tattooing through the Sulu‘ape legacy, giving visitors an opportunity to learn about a living cultural tradition alongside contemporary Australian tattoo art.
Presented by the Professional Tattooing Association of Australia, the 12-hour event will feature live tattooing, artist competitions and exhibitions. Visitors will also be able to see traditional Samoan hand-tapped tattooing through the Sulu’ape legacy.
The program extends beyond tattooing, with a car and chopper show, live street art, music, food trucks, market stalls, amusement rides and a petting zoo planned.
PTAA president Jeff Rhodes said the show was intended to welcome people with a wide range of interests.
“Western Sydney has a strong creative community and some phenomenal tattoo artists. We wanted to create something that celebrates that culture while opening the doors to the wider community,” he said.
“You don’t have to be tattooed to come along — this is a day for artists, families, car enthusiasts, music lovers and anyone who wants to experience something a little different.”
The association marked its 40th anniversary in 2025. Organisers say the show will celebrate tattooing’s history in Australia while giving established and emerging artists a place to present their work.
