Hawkesbury cricket enthusiast Troy Myers is hoping for a summer of sunshine as he and his premiership-winning teammates prepare for a new challenge in First Division.
After winning the Second Division premiership in the Sydney Classic competition last season, Hawkesbury’s over-50s side earned promotion for 2026–27.
As the Gazette reported in May, Myers welcomed the opportunity to compete at a higher level, crediting the group’s hard work throughout the season.
Now the challenge is to carry that winning form into a tougher competition.
For Myers and his teammates, the appeal extends beyond runs and wickets. The Hawkesbury Classics bring together experienced cricketers who share a love of the game and the friendships that come with it.
In January, the Gazette reported that Myers was playing in the over-50s Classics Division 2 side, with home games at Bensons Lane. The competition was played every second Sunday, giving players time for family commitments—and a little recovery between matches.
The premiership squad included Scott Tuckerman, Andrew Morgan, Tony Phillips, Shane Griffin, Scott Boyd, Brett Schlyder, Michael Falzon, Bruce Earl, Douglas McIntyre, David Bennett, Wayne Holt, Hugh McKay, Richard James, John Devocht, Rob Kropman, Donu Levy, Myers and John Bennett.
There was further cause for celebration with Morgan’s selection in the over-55s NSW Development Squad, another achievement reported at the end of the successful season.
Promotion brings fresh opponents and a chance to test the skills and teamwork that delivered the premiership.
It also brings another summer of packed kit bags, hopeful appeals, stubborn partnerships and conversations that continue long after the final ball.
The players may have a few more seasons behind them than some, but the competitive instinct remains firmly intact.
For Myers, the wish is straightforward: plenty of sunshine, plenty of cricket and another memorable season representing the Hawkesbury.
