Hawkesbury motorists looking to reduce their fuel bills can compare local service-station prices before leaving home using the NSW Government’s free FuelCheck service.
Available as a website and smartphone app, FuelCheck provides real-time fuel-price information and allows drivers to search by suburb, location and fuel type.
Residents can compare prices around Windsor, Richmond, North Richmond, Wilberforce and Kurrajong, or check stations along their regular journeys to work, shopping or appointments.
The potential savings are straightforward: a price difference of 20 cents a litre means a $10 saving on a 50-litre fill.
However, motorists should weigh any savings against the cost of travelling further to reach a cheaper station. Filling up along a journey already planned may offer better value than making a special trip.
FuelCheck users can select the fuel their vehicle requires, including E10, regular unleaded, premium unleaded or diesel, to compare prices for the same grade.
The app also allows motorists to save favourite stations and set alerts when their preferred fuel reaches a selected price or becomes cheaper nearby.
A “My Trip” feature helps drivers find cheaper fuel along a planned route, while the “Trends” feature tracks price movements to help users decide when to fill up.
No paid membership is required, and people without a smartphone can access FuelCheck through a computer.
NSW service-station operators are required to ensure their FuelCheck prices match the standard price at the pump. Motorists who find a discrepancy should first raise it with the operator. If it remains unresolved, they can lodge a complaint through the service.
For Hawkesbury households watching their budgets, a quick comparison before filling up could help keep more money in their pockets.
