People who live, work, study or visit Windsor are being asked to share their experiences of public spaces to help shape a new $150,000 safety campaign.

Hawkesbury City Council has secured NSW Government funding for a creative communications project focused on improving safety and the experiences of women, girls and gender-diverse people.

The project will concentrate on George Street between Windsor railway station and Hawkesbury Central Library.

An online survey is now open, asking people what makes Windsor feel welcoming and comfortable, and where improvements could be made.

Community feedback will help guide the campaign, alongside discussions with community partners, workshops and pop-up trials where people can respond to proposed ideas and designs.

The campaign will celebrate local stories, achievements and lived experiences, reflecting the Hawkesbury’s cultural identity and deep connections to Country.

NSW Transport Minister John Graham said people should feel safe using local streets at any time of day.

“By working closely with the community, we can create spaces that are accessible, welcoming and inclusive for women, girls and gender diverse people in Windsor,” he said.

Hawkesbury Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett said hearing directly from people who spend time in Windsor would help Council understand what could be done to improve safety.

“The upcoming community consultation that this funding supports will allow us to hear firsthand from women, girls and gender diverse people about their experience in Windsor and understand what we can do as a community to make it a safe place to be,” she said.

The project is funded through Transport for NSW’s Safer Cities: Her Way 2 grant program.

Council says its aim is for everyone visiting Windsor to feel welcome, comfortable, represented and connected.
