Motorists travelling through The Driftway will face a changed detour from Friday, October 16, as construction progresses on Stage 1 of the New Richmond Bridge project.
Transport for NSW has advised that the intersection of The Driftway and Blacktown Road, together with the section of The Driftway between Luxford Road and Reynolds Road, will close from that date.
The closure will change the existing detour associated with works between Londonderry Road and Jockbet Street. Traffic will instead be diverted via Londonderry Road, Carrington Road and Bennett Road.
The notice does not specify when the new closures will end.
Additional night works are also scheduled at The Driftway and Londonderry Road roundabout on Tuesday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 14, between 8pm and 5am, weather permitting.
Crews will adjust concrete barriers, remove and install line markings, and remove and lay asphalt to shift traffic lanes north while maintaining existing traffic movements.
Transport for NSW said nearby properties had been consulted about extended construction hours. Following positive community feedback, work at the Londonderry Road intersection may take place up to five nights a week, with longer Saturday hours when required.
Stage 1 of the New Richmond Bridge project involves upgrades to The Driftway intersections at Blacktown Road and Londonderry Road, aimed at improving safety and flood resilience.
The Australian and NSW governments have committed funding for broader traffic improvements, including a new bridge over the Hawkesbury River between Richmond and North Richmond.
