Residents now have access to a new Medicare Urgent Care Clinic on 2 Kable St, Windsor with the service officially opening its doors today.

The clinic is designed to provide free, walk-in urgent care for a range of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, helping to take pressure off local hospital emergency departments and improve access to timely treatment.

Medicare Urgent Care Clinics provide bulk-billed care for patients with a Medicare card, with no appointment needed. The clinics are staffed by doctors and nurses and are aimed at treating conditions that need attention quickly but are not emergencies.

Importantly for the community, the clinic will be open every day from 8am to 10pm, giving residents access to medical care outside standard GP hours.

Other urgent care options across the region are located in the Penrith and Rouse Hill.

Common reasons people may visit include minor infections, cuts and wounds, sprains, minor burns, fevers, ear infections and other urgent medical concerns.

The new clinic is expected to be a welcome addition for families and residents who struggle to access a GP appointment at short notice, particularly after hours and on weekends.

Accessibility Addressed

Wentworth Healthcare CEO Lizz Reay addressed concerns raised about the clinic’s accessibility, explaining the high standards clinics must meet to be eligible to provide Medicare Urgent Care services.

“To be eligible, a general practice must meet rigorous requirements, especially around accessibility,” Ms Reay said. “We conducted a thorough open tender process to find a suitable practice in the area and are delighted to have awarded the Windsor Medicare Urgent Care Clinic contract to Myhealth Kable Street. Accessibility criteria include adequate parking nearby, wheelchair access both outside and inside, specialised seating in the waiting area, accessible toilets, and convenient proximity to public transport. The practice also needed accreditation from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), which has its own strict accessibility standards.”
Ms Reay added, “The Clinic features ramp access leading to the entrance and a lift to the first-floor clinic. If patients have difficulty navigating the ramp, clinic staff are ready to assist. Patients can call (02) 4577 5622 upon arrival and request help.”

For non-urgent concerns or to arrange treatment, residents can contact the clinic on (02) 4577 5622. However, patients are reminded to call Triple Zero (000) or attend an emergency department immediately for any serious or life-threatening conditions.
