Motorists travelling through South Windsor, Londonderry and Cranebrook are being advised to expect changed traffic conditions over the coming month as Transport for NSW undertakes road shoulder repairs and safety improvement works along several major routes.
The works will take place on:
- Cranebrook Road between Castlereagh Road and Londonderry Road in Cranebrook;
- The Northern Road between Londonderry Road and Richmond Road in Londonderry; and
- George Street between Blacktown Road and Colonial Drive in South Windsor.
Transport for NSW said the project is aimed at improving road safety and reducing future maintenance requirements by repairing damaged road shoulders and strengthening sections of pavement.
The work will involve repairing road shoulders to provide a safer area for emergency stops, reinforcing pavement edges to reduce road deterioration, improving drainage and extending the life of the road surface.
The improvements are expected to benefit the many Hawkesbury residents who travel daily along these routes to access Richmond, Penrith, Western Sydney and employment centres throughout the region.
Night Works to Minimise Disruption
The works will be carried out over up to 15 night shifts between Sunday, June 14 and Thursday, July 16, weather permitting.
Crews will be on site between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday, with no work scheduled on Friday or Saturday nights.
By undertaking the project at night, Transport for NSW hopes to minimise disruption to daytime traffic while allowing crews to safely complete the repairs.
Traffic Changes in Place
Temporary traffic controls will be implemented throughout the project to ensure the safety of workers and motorists.
Drivers can expect:
- Single lane closures;
- Traffic control measures;
- Reduced speed limits of 40km/h through work zones; and
- Possible minor delays during work hours.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time when travelling through the affected areas and to follow the directions of traffic controllers and road signage.
Why the Work Matters
Road shoulders play an important role in road safety, providing space for emergency stopping, breakdowns and recovery vehicles while helping protect the structural integrity of the road.
Damaged shoulders can lead to pavement edge failures, drainage issues and accelerated deterioration of the road surface.
Transport for NSW said the works are intended to improve the long-term condition of the road network and reduce the need for more extensive repairs in the future.
For Hawkesbury residents, the project is particularly relevant along George Street at South Windsor, one of the district's busiest local roads and a key link between Windsor, Richmond and surrounding residential areas.
