Police Probe Reported Attempt to Lead Child Away at South Windsor Sports Facilities

Mileham Street Netball Courts

Parents across the Hawkesbury are being urged to speak with their children about personal safety after a reported incident at the South Windsor netball courts over the weekend.

In a message sent to families, Windsor South Public School advised that NSW Police are investigating reports that an unknown adult allegedly approached a child and attempted to lead them away from the area.

The school said the incident did not involve a Windsor South Public School student but felt it was important to alert families and encourage discussions about personal safety.

"NSW Police have been notified and are investigating the matter," the school said.

The school reminded parents and carers that while such incidents are rare, they provide an opportunity to reinforce important safety messages with children.

Families are being encouraged to remind children to stay with friends, teammates or trusted adults when attending sporting events and community activities.

Children should also be reminded never to leave with an unknown person, even if they appear friendly or claim they have been sent by a parent.

The school encouraged children to seek help immediately from a trusted adult if they ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable and to ensure they know who is collecting them and where they should meet following activities.

Parents and carers are also being urged to remain vigilant in public places and to report any suspicious behaviour to event organisers or police.

The reported incident has prompted renewed discussion about child safety at sporting grounds and community events, where large numbers of families often gather on weekends.

Windsor South Public School said maintaining open conversations about personal safety helps ensure children know how to respond if they ever find themselves in an uncomfortable situation.

"While incidents such as this are rare, maintaining open conversations about personal safety helps ensure our children know what to do if they ever feel unsafe," the school said.

Anyone with information that may assist police investigations is encouraged to contact NSW Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
