Recycling your Closet Clutter for a Sustainable Future

Pick Up From Your Door

Merle Lester Kurrajong Heights

A simple idea is helping Hawkesbury residents declutter their homes while supporting people in need with one local resident encouraging the community to get involved.

Merle Lester, from Kurrajong Heights, is spreading the word about the Clothing Cycle Appeal, a service that makes donating unwanted clothes easier than ever.

Leave It at the Gate

Unlike traditional donation methods that require a trip to a charity bin or store, the Clothing Cycle Appeal offers a convenient alternative.

Residents can simply pack unwanted clothing, shoes or textiles into bags, register online and leave the bags at their front gate for collection.

“It’s so easy,” Merle said. “You just leave your bags out and they collect them—it couldn’t be simpler.”

Giving Clothes a Second Life

The initiative ensures that donated items are:

  • reused where possible
  • recycled where necessary
  • and redirected to support people in need
“It’s not just about cleaning out your wardrobe,” Merle said. “The clothing is helping others, and that’s what makes it worthwhile.”

With growing awareness of textile waste and its environmental impact, programs like Clothing Cycle are also helping reduce landfill while supporting charitable outcomes.

Supporting the Community—Locally and Beyond

For Hawkesbury residents, the appeal offers a practical way to contribute without leaving home.

In many areas in Hawkesbury where travel to donation centres can be less convenient the doorstep collection model is proving particularly popular.

It also aligns with broader community values of sustainability generosity and supporting those doing it tough.

How to Take Part

To participate, residents must register their collection through the Clothing Cycle website.

Step 1: Schedule a pickup by using our online booking system.

Step 2: Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email that includes the date and time of pickup.

Step 3: On the day of your scheduled pickup, simply leave your bag of clothes in the designated area.

Step 4: Our Clothing Cycle Appeal truck will arrive at your location to collect your items and ensure that they are properly recycled or repurposed.

A Simple Act, A Big Impact

As Merle Lester puts it, sometimes the simplest actions can make the biggest difference.

By turning unwanted clothing into support for others, Hawkesbury residents have an easy opportunity to give back one bag at a time.

“Cheerio,” she added, with a smile encouraging others to get involved.
