Major construction on Richmond Road at Marsden Park will continue throughout September as the Australian and NSW governments progress the upgrade between Elara Boulevard and Heritage Road.
Transport for NSW says work is scheduled from Tuesday, September 1, to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as part of the project to improve safety, traffic flow and road resilience in Sydney’s fast-growing north-west.
The September program will include investigations of underground services, earthworks, excavation and soil compaction, along with electrical, utility and drainage work involving underground pipes and cables.
Standard construction hours will be from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 7am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Some work will also be carried out between 7pm and 7am on selected weeknights to reduce daytime traffic disruption and provide safer conditions for workers.
Transport for NSW says up to seven nights of work are planned during September. Residents and motorists have been advised to expect increased construction activity and some noisy work.
Measures to limit disturbance will include completing the noisiest activities before midnight, switching off equipment when it is not in use, monitoring noise and directing work lights away from nearby properties where possible.

Traffic changes
Motorists should expect temporary traffic changes through the construction zone.
Temporary speed limits of 60km/h may apply, barriers will be installed and lanes may be closed during some stages of construction. Traffic in both directions may also temporarily be moved onto one side of Richmond Road under traffic control.
During night work, road shoulders may be closed and the speed limit may be reduced to 40km/h. Motorists should follow signs, temporary speed limits and directions from traffic controllers.
One of the main night activities will involve trenching and installing service conduits across Richmond Road near Heritage Road. The work is expected to take place over up to seven nights and generate moderate noise.
Drainage milestone reached
Transport for NSW says the Stage 1 stormwater culvert was completed in July.
The large underground concrete structure is designed to channel stormwater beneath Richmond Road. Transport for NSW says it should reduce the likelihood of water flowing across the road during rainfall, lessen local flooding impacts, protect the road pavement and reduce erosion on surrounding land.
Major construction between Elara Boulevard and Heritage Road began in February 2026. It followed strategic design work beginning in 2018, concept design in 2019, public exhibition of the Review of Environmental Factors in 2020, and detailed design and contractor appointment in 2025.
The upgrade is expected to be completed in December 2028, weather permitting.
The Australian and NSW governments say the project will support continued growth in Sydney’s north-west and make travel through the area safer and easier.
