Progress on the long-awaited redevelopment of Woodbury Reserve in Glossodia is continuing, with key stakeholders touring the site last week to inspect works and discuss the next stages of the project.
Hawkesbury City Council hosted the tour on April 9, bringing together representatives from local sporting groups, the Hawkesbury Sports Council, Glossodia Rural Fire Service, and funding partners from both the Australian and NSW Governments.
The visit provided a first-hand look at construction progress for Phase 1 of the redevelopment, with Council staff outlining completed works and upcoming stages.
Building for the future
The Woodbury Reserve upgrade is one of the Hawkesbury’s major community infrastructure projects, aimed at delivering improved sporting and recreational facilities for the growing Glossodia area.
Government spokesperson for Hawkesbury, the Hon. Peter Primrose MLC, said the project would deliver long-term benefits for the community.
“The Woodbury Reserve Upgrade is great news for Glossodia and the whole Hawkesbury community. The new facilities will encourage healthy, outdoor activities at a special place already loved by locals and visitors,” he said.
Federal Member for Macquarie Susan Templeman said the next phase of works would build on infrastructure already delivered at the site.
“This next phase of work will complement the skate park and pump track already constructed here at Woodbury Reserve,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to the completion of this stage as it will really start to bring the concept of this design to life for the community.”
She added that local sporting clubs were already looking ahead to future stages, which will include upgrades to sporting fields and amenities.
Community input shaping the project
The site tour also provided an opportunity for Council and project partners to engage directly with local sporting groups, ensuring the redevelopment reflects the needs of current and future users.
Mayor Les Sheather said collaboration had been key to the project’s progress.
“It was fantastic to welcome our funding partners and local sporting groups on site to see the progress being made at Woodbury Reserve,” he said.
“This redevelopment will deliver high-quality facilities that support participation in sport and strengthen our local community.”
Funded across all levels of government
The project is being delivered with funding from:
- The Australian Government through the Priority Community Infrastructure Program
- The NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program
- Hawkesbury City Council
Additional funding from the NSW Government’s Open Spaces Program supported the delivery of the BMX pump track and mountain bike trails already in place.
What’s next
Construction of Phase 1 is progressing, with further updates expected as the project moves through subsequent stages.
For local residents and sporting groups, the redevelopment represents a significant investment in community infrastructure aimed at supporting participation, health and recreation across the Hawkesbury.
