The spirit of the Hawkesbury’s great blues and roots music days is set to return on a much smaller scale on 29 August, with the Mid Mountains Blues Festival bringing a full day of live music to the region from 10:30am until late.

For nine years, the Hawkesbury was home to the much-loved Sydney Blues and Roots Festival, attracting music lovers from across Sydney and beyond. It became a major event on the local music calendar, showcasing some of the best blues, roots and live acts and drawing crowds from far and wide.  The festival grew into a 4 day multi venue fixture every October/November across the McQuade park precinct, local pubs, café’s, Windsor mall and river cruises.

Sadly, keeping a festival of that scale running locally became increasingly difficult, with organisers facing more and more hurdles and requirements. Eventually, without support of some local businesses and increasing restrictions placed on the organisers, the festival eventually came to an end.

Rather than letting the music disappear, the organisers went on to purchase the Hawkesbury Hotel’s licence, creating a hugely popular live music venue and continuing to showcase incredible local and touring acts. For music lovers in the Hawkesbury, those days remain a reminder of just how special a great live music scene can be.

Since then, the region hasn’t seen quite the same kind of blues celebration — until now.

Tucked away in the Mid Mountains, Blue Mountains Fire Pits is taking on the challenge of creating a new blues festival experience. The unique venue provides the perfect setting for a day and night of live music, with custom-made fire pits, open fires, great food, an extensive drinks menu and, importantly, a team of friendly staff ready to welcome music lovers.

The festival will feature an impressive line-up of talented musicians, with 10 live music acts kicking off at 10:30am and continuing through until late.

The line-up includes Steve Edmonds Band, Glenn Nunan and the General Jacksons, Matt Charnley, The Juke Joint 4, Daena Atkins Band, Killing Flaw, Sarah Leete, Wild Honey, Jess Kennedy and Cooper Vres.

The Mid Mountains Blues Festival promises to be more than just another gig. It’s an opportunity to bring people together around great music, good food, a few drinks and the unmistakable atmosphere of a live blues festival.

For those who remember the Hawkesbury’s earlier blues and roots festival days, it could be a welcome return to something that has been missing from the local music scene for far too long.

And for those who weren’t around to experience them, the Mid Mountains Blues Festival is a chance to discover what all the fuss was about.
